The Bruce and Jane Sawvel Home
221 Dunreath Street
In the heart of downtown Lafayette, the Sawlev Home, is one of the many well kept ”secret gardens”. The home, built in 1934, is a gem in Elmhurst Park, and was once a highlight of the original Azalea Trail.
With base plantings of Formosa, Conversation Piece and Red Ruffles Azaleas, the gardens abound with old fashion plantings of shrimp plants, calla lilies, native iris, night blooming jasmine and lady slippers.
Washingtonia and Queen Palm trees, Hawaiian Ti, Saucer Magnolias, Fostoria Hollies, miniature Gardenias and Agapanthus continue the old fashioned charm accent the pool area in the back yard.
